Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva made headlines during his India visit by unveiling the first office of ApexBrasil, Brazil’s Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, right in the heart of New Delhi. The Saturday event signals a bold push to amplify business synergies between the two emerging giants.
In a post on social media, Lula explained the agency’s dual role: boosting Brazilian exports globally and drawing international capital into Brazil’s key industries. He emphasized the robust $15.2 billion trade turnover in 2025 between Brazil and India—nations leading the Global South—with ample room for exponential expansion.
Joining Lula were several ministers and ApexBrasil head Jorge Viana, underscoring the visit’s high stakes. This trip boasts the biggest Brazilian business contingent ever to India: over 260 firms, 14 cabinet members, and leading executives.
Timed with U.S. tariff policies under Trump reshaping world trade, the visit reflects strategic maneuvering by India and Brazil to fortify their economic alliance against uncertainties.
Lula also engaged at the AI Impact Summit, advocating for AI-driven advancements in tech infrastructure and equitable growth. This spotlighted technology as a burgeoning avenue for bilateral innovation.
Looking ahead, February 21 brings Lula and PM Modi together for comprehensive talks. The agenda spans trade, investments, energy, defense, digital tech, and cultural exchanges, per MEA statements. Multilateral issues like global reforms and Global South advocacy are on the table too.
Since 2006’s strategic partnership, India-Brazil bonds have deepened, fueled by common ideals. Active in BRICS, G20, and beyond, they now aim to harness supply chain shifts for mutual prosperity.
