Qualcomm Technologies is teaming up with Tata Electronics to kickstart production of advanced automotive modules in Assam’s Jagiroad, a move announced Friday that underscores India’s growing role in global tech manufacturing. Under the ‘Make in India’ banner, this alliance targets local production of vital auto tech for digital cockpits, infotainment, connectivity, and smart vehicle ecosystems.
Domestic manufacturing of these modules will meet escalating demands from vehicle makers at home and abroad, while diversifying and strengthening supply chains against global disruptions.
By entering Qualcomm’s elite global partner network, Tata Electronics is geared to fulfill the worldwide surge in modular automotive platforms. The Qualcomm Automotive Modules pack Snapdragon Digital Chassis SoCs with key system elements into pre-fabricated units, offering OEMs full-fledged electronics ecosystems out of the box.
These modules promise streamlined system designs and faster development cycles, fostering scalable architectures primed for software-defined vehicles and propelling industry-wide progress.
From Qualcomm’s automotive leadership, Nakul Duggal noted the urgency of manufacturing expansion amid the shift to modular designs. Savi Soin, leading Qualcomm India, added that such plug-and-play solutions cut design hurdles, enabling quicker launches of cutting-edge automobiles.
Manufacturing in India via Tata will amplify Qualcomm’s prowess, delivering agile supply chains to Indian and international OEMs. The state-of-the-art Jagiroad plant, backed by $3 billion investment, pioneers OSAT operations in India with capabilities in wire bond, flip chip, and ISP technologies.
Serving automotive, comms, IoT, and AI domains, this facility heralds a new era of self-sufficient semiconductor assembly, boosting employment, exports, and India’s stature in the automotive tech landscape.
