A prominent BJP parliamentarian has publicly slammed low-cost carrier IndiGo after his luggage vanished during a domestic flight, sparking debates on passenger rights and airline accountability. Praveen Khandelwal, representing Delhi’s Chandni Chowk constituency and serving as General Secretary of the All India Traders Confederation (CAIT), shared his ordeal on X, criticizing the airline’s inefficiency.
On Friday, Khandelwal flew from New Delhi to Belagavi via IndiGo’s 6E-5237. While he disembarked without issues, his baggage failed to appear. No updates were provided by ground staff, leaving him stranded without necessities. The MP highlighted the financial burden of replacing items on the spot and the emotional toll of uncertainty over important documents inside the bag.
‘What kind of service is this? If this happens to an MP, imagine the plight of common citizens,’ Khandelwal wrote, tagging CEO Pieter Elbers and Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu. He called for immediate intervention to address IndiGo’s ‘deeply concerning’ practices.
The post has garnered attention, with many users echoing similar past experiences with IndiGo, known for frequent operational hiccups like delays and cancellations. Despite the high-profile complaint, the airline remains silent so far.
Experts note that baggage mishandling costs airlines millions annually, but for passengers, it’s more than numbers—it’s lost time, money, and trust. This case underscores the need for robust tracking systems and transparent communication from carriers to restore faith in air travel.
