Bihar’s legislative assembly buzzed with urgency on Thursday as lawmakers demanded an end to the menace of high-decibel DJ systems mounted on vehicles. Transport Minister Shravana Kumar responded decisively, pledging a major enforcement drive within 15 days to dismantle illegal operations.
The spark came from Independent Legislative Council member Vanshidhar Brijwasi, who grilled the government on why DJ production thrives unchecked even as their use is banned. He detailed how commercial vehicles are brazenly altered into mobile sound trucks, hiding number plates and flouting rules, especially during wedding seasons when enforcement vanishes, leading to fatalities.
Fellow MLC Veerendra Narayan Yadav backed the query, framing it as a public health and safety crisis driven by noise pollution. Kumar acknowledged the widespread concerns raised by multiple members and committed to a comprehensive statewide inspection of modified vehicles lacking permits.
Highlighting recent road safety discussions, the minister stressed strict adherence to department regulations. ‘We will shut down every unauthorized DJ setup and curb noise violations,’ he stated. The session concluded with RJD’s Abdul Bari Siddiqui pushing for a total prohibition on DJs at social events. As Bihar gears up for this crackdown, residents hope for relief from the eardrum-shattering noise and perilous driving distractions that have plagued the state for years.
