The arrival of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New Delhi marks a new chapter in international cooperation on artificial intelligence. Attending the prestigious India AI Impact Summit 2026, his participation signals deepening ties between the United Nations and India, as highlighted by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Welcomed by Union Minister of State H.D. Malhotra, Guterres’ visit aligns perfectly with India’s dedication to multilateral efforts for sustainable development and world peace. The MEA shared on social media platform X that this engagement will further cement the strategic alliance.
Set to speak at the opening session, Guterres will advocate for inclusive AI frameworks and warn against emerging risks. The summit, which began on Monday, features an impressive lineup of global leaders, tech innovators, and policymakers from over 100 nations, drawing 35,000 attendees.
As the first major AI-focused global conference in the Global South, hosted under the India AI Mission, it seeks to redefine AI’s trajectory towards positive societal impact. Key themes include leveraging AI for equitable development, resilient governance, and environmental sustainability. Running through February 20, it boasts participation from 20+ heads of state, 60 ministers, and numerous experts.
