Bengaluru’s waste management woes exploded into a major confrontation Wednesday, with around 300 trash-laden trucks halted by furious residents en route to Doddaballapur. The blockade at Doda Mankala highlighted deepening frustrations over the city’s overburdened disposal system.
After protests shut down Mahadevapura as a dumping site, GBA officials rerouted the vehicles, igniting fresh opposition. A recent fatal accident involving a child has intensified emotions, turning roads into barricades of defiance.
BJP MLA Dhiraj Muniraju spearheaded the action, slamming GBA for neglecting local impacts. ‘Mahadevapura’s issues don’t justify dumping here,’ he declared. ‘No permits, no entry. We’re sending them back.’ Fines were slapped on non-compliant trucks by transport authorities.
Locals decried operations at nearby Mittaganahalli and Bellahalli plants, citing improper processing and financial shortfalls for panchayats. Fingers pointed at CEO Kari Gowda for the sudden influx of extra rigs.
With Bengaluru generating mountains of waste daily, this clash underscores the urgent need for better infrastructure and community involvement. Officials promise dialogue to prevent future escalations and protect vulnerable outskirts from urban spillovers.
