In a stinging critique of Congress’s internal chaos, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that many top party leaders are secretly communicating with BJP, signaling a potential mass shift before the upcoming assembly elections.
The remarks came amid the fallout from Bhupen Borah’s resignation as former state Congress chief. Sarma, known for his sharp political acumen, revealed his wide network. ‘I’m connected to leaders from all parties, including every single Congress figure,’ he stated. He provocatively added that assuring spots in BJP would prompt an exodus of Hindu leaders from the grand old party.
According to Sarma, Congress is spiraling into deep anxiety and disarray with elections nearing. The party’s inability to articulate a coherent vision or stable leadership has fueled unrest among members and workers alike.
BJP’s appeal lies in its solid structure and proven administration, Sarma argued, drawing in politicians seeking reliability. ‘Joining BJP means embracing steady progress, growth opportunities, and a defined path ahead,’ he explained. The party continues to solidify support among various ethnic and social groups across the state.
Sarma lambasted Congress for its leadership crisis and dim electoral hopes, evidenced by serial resignations and open rifts. This turmoil underscores the opposition’s fading influence, he contended.
The government under BJP, Sarma stressed, channels energy into tangible gains like employment generation, modern infrastructure, and people-centric programs, sidelining petty opposition tactics.
With Congress battling resignations and defection speculation, political observers interpret Sarma’s bold claims as strategic posturing to fortify BJP’s dominance in Assam’s high-stakes polls.
