In a bold statement from New Delhi, Wipro’s top technology leader Hari Shetty on Monday painted an optimistic picture of AI’s impact on the job market. While the technology will undoubtedly alter job landscapes, it promises to unlock unprecedented employment prospects.
Shetty, serving as Chief Strategist and CTO at the IT giant, likened the current AI wave to history’s pivotal innovations – electricity’s glow, steam power’s might, and the internet’s connectivity.
This isn’t mere hype, he argued. AI’s multi-dimensional revolution will permeate every sector, fueling economic expansion across the globe.
Backing his views with data from the World Economic Forum, Shetty noted AI’s potential to birth 170 million fresh jobs against 92 million displaced, yielding a net gain of more than 70 million positions.
Adaptation is key, he stressed. ‘Ways of working will change, demanding fresh skills from all.’ Yet optimism prevails: the outlook remains promising.
Internally, Wipro leads by example with company-wide AI training initiatives. Externally, collaborations with seven states are spawning AI and data science excellence hubs, empowering 60,000 young learners.
Shetty’s message is clear: View AI not as a threat, but as a gateway to a thriving, opportunity-rich tomorrow.
