Amid growing concerns over urban housing shortages, Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood visited the Bhalswa Vijay Chowk locality to assess over 1,700 neglected flats meant for slum rehabilitation. Constructed back in 2014, these structures have deteriorated into eyesores, with crumbling walls and absent basic services, lying vacant for years.
During the tour, Sood was appalled by the state of affairs. Addressing the media, he outlined the government’s aggressive action plan. ‘Delhi is transforming jhuggis into modern apartments. We’ve ordered comprehensive structural checks and immediate renovations,’ he stated firmly.
Key instructions included prioritizing repairs on vulnerable buildings, alongside upgrades to power, water, drainage, and connectivity. Sood reiterated that these flats were built specifically for displaced slum families, and bureaucratic hurdles had stalled progress until now.
The renewed focus promises swift allotments post-repairs, with a transparent system to prevent corruption. ‘No more makeshift shelters for our citizens. They deserve secure, hygienic homes in well-planned communities,’ Sood affirmed. This hands-on approach by the AAP government aims to deliver on electoral promises of housing for all.
As work ramps up, Bhalswa residents hope for a slum-free tomorrow, with Sood’s oversight ensuring accountability and speed.
