Cairo became a hub of Sino-Egyptian camaraderie on February 13 as China Media Group (CMG) unveiled its ‘Spring Festival Gala Prelude’ in the heart of Egypt. Jointly hosted by CMG, the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, and Egyptian authorities from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Tourism Promotion Bureau, the event drew more than 200 attendees to the majestic Grand Egyptian Museum.
In a heartfelt video address, CMG chief Shen Haixiong traced the roots of the Spring Festival, a cornerstone of Chinese heritage that has endured for millennia. He described it as more than a holiday—it’s a unifying force connecting overseas Chinese and now embraced by global communities. With official recognition in nearly 20 nations and celebrated by a fifth of the world’s population, its influence is undeniable.
Proudly, Shen announced CMG’s 43-year tradition of the Spring Festival Gala, the planet’s top-viewed television spectacle. Essential viewing for Chinese diaspora and global admirers, this edition themed ‘Galloping Horse, Unstoppable Momentum’ will air in an impressive 85 languages, ensuring worldwide accessibility.
Echoing these sentiments, an Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson lauded the multifaceted strategic partnership blossoming between Cairo and Beijing. Recent years have witnessed substantial progress in politics, economy, and culture. Commemorating 70 years of diplomatic ties in 2024, officials anticipate intensified exchanges. Hosting the prelude at the Grand Egyptian Museum amplifies cultural dialogues, nurturing enduring friendships between the peoples of Egypt and China.
