In a stirring speech that resonated across Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister MK Stalin stood as a guardian of the state’s cultural soul during the inauguration of the International Vallalar Conference in Chennai. Organized under the aegis of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, the event became a platform for Stalin to warn against efforts to ‘repaint’ the profound teachings of Ramalinga Swamigal Vallalar in misleading hues.
Stalin was unequivocal: Tamil Nadu will not tolerate any dilution of Vallalar’s core principles of compassion and equality, nor attempts to portray them divisively. He painted a vivid picture of Vallalar’s philosophy, centered on ‘Thanipenum Karunai’ – the boundless compassion that deems hunger a scourge and feeding the needy the supreme duty.
Drawing parallels to contemporary governance, the CM highlighted how his administration’s flagship schemes echo these timeless values. The nutritious breakfast program for students and aid for seniors are direct tributes to eradicating the pains of poverty and malnutrition, fostering a compassionate society.
On the religious front, Stalin shared impressive strides in temple preservation. Over 4,192 ancient shrines have undergone complete reconstruction and reconsecration after decades of neglect. Massive renovation efforts spanning 12,900 temples, backed by ₹8,100 crore investment, have seen thousands of projects reach fruition, breathing new life into Tamil Nadu’s spiritual landmarks.
To honor Vallalar’s enduring influence, seven groundbreaking projects were launched on the spot. These range from erecting a memorial pillar and establishing a Sanmarga school in Vadalur to introducing Thiruvarutpa music academies and herbal gardens. Further initiatives include publishing ‘Spiritual Alchemy,’ instituting a grand three-day Vallalar birth anniversary event, setting up free meal centers, dedicating a park, and founding a dedicated research center in Chennai.
Stalin wrapped up with a clarion call: Equality and justice must transcend rhetoric into action. Preserve and propagate Vallalar’s gospel of humanity, he implored, so that Tamil Nadu’s progressive ethos shines brightly for posterity.
