Hajipur buzzed with religious zeal on Maha Shivratri as Union Minister and BJP stalwart Nityanand Rai once again donned the humble attire of a gariwan, guiding a bullock cart in the iconic Shiva Baraat. This annual spectacle in Vaishali district draws massive crowds, blending ancient customs with festive grandeur.
Rai’s journey began at the revered Pataleshwar Nath Temple, where he offered puja before stepping into his longstanding role. Over 30 years, he’s made it a point to return from wherever his duties take him, embodying unwavering devotion to Baba Bhole Nath.
The procession was a feast for the senses: elephants, horses, brass bands, and performers in mythical guises created a mesmerizing tableau. Devotees hurled abir and gulal, their voices rising in unison with ‘Har Har Mahadev,’ transforming the streets into a river of faith.
Interacting with locals, Rai highlighted the event’s historical depth. ‘This tradition unites our community,’ he noted. ‘No matter my position, Maha Shivratri brings me back as the cart driver.’ He vowed to sustain it lifelong, seeking Lord Shiva’s blessings for universal happiness.
As the baraat reached Akshay Vat Rai Stadium, accolades were bestowed on the finest displays. With BJP figures and throngs of bhakts present, the day reaffirmed Hajipur’s spiritual legacy, leaving an indelible mark of piety and joy.
