Gujarat’s Jetpur witnessed a horrifying road accident on Sunday afternoon, where a car returning from Bhavnath Fair smashed into a railway overbridge, claiming three lives and leaving one fighter battling for survival.
The mishap unfolded on the Jetalsar Junction bridge amid post-Maha Shivratri rush. The group of four youths had attended the popular fair in Junagadh, known for drawing massive crowds of pilgrims. According to preliminary police findings, excessive speed led the driver to lose grip, resulting in a catastrophic collision.
The car’s front and rear sections tore apart violently, ejecting occupants onto the roadway. Among the deceased were 21-year-old Muskan Bagda of Raidi and 20-year-old Arun Wala of Navagadh, who perished on the spot. Jaydeep Chauhan fought valiantly but passed away en route to medical care, while Amit Parmar clings to life in intensive care.
Bystanders sprang into action, notifying police who cordoned off the site. Heavy machinery removed the mangled vehicle, restoring traffic flow after initial snarls. The injured were initially treated at a local government hospital before transfers.
With Maha Shivratri festivities peaking, overcrowded roads likely played a role. Officers emphasize a detailed inquiry into speed, vehicle condition, and infrastructure. Post-mortem reports are pending, and FIR formalities are complete.
This incident underscores the perils of festive travel, prompting urgent discussions on enhanced signage, speed checks, and bridge reinforcements in high-traffic zones.
