A spectacular cultural odyssey dedicated to the legendary King Vikramaditya unfolds in Ujjain starting Sunday, blending spirituality, arts, and intellect until March 19. Madhya Pradesh’s government, under CM Mohan Yadav’s guidance, has meticulously planned this extended Vikram Utsav to honor the emperor’s enduring legacy.
The inauguration features citywide Shivratri melas, a ceremonial Kalash procession, and the soul-stirring ‘Shivoham’ performance. Theatre enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Vikram Theatre Mahotsav from February 16-25 hosts global and domestic troupes enacting timeless stories.
Mid-festival, from February 26-28, expect an international history conclave, puppetry extravaganza, and scholarly seminars. Delving deeper into Vikramaditya’s reign, a seminar on justice systems runs February 28 to March 1, paving the way for poets’ recitals on March 7.
Diverse attractions include a global mythological cinema fest with films from 20+ nations, interactive Vedic Antakshari, and traditional sunrise worship on Gudi Padwa at sacred ghats. The crescendo arrives on March 19 with Ujjayini Gaurav Diwas, featuring awards, calendar launch, Arsha Bharat volume two, and the evocative ‘Mahadev Ki Nadi Katha’ production by Shipra River.
Reviewing preparations, CM Yadav stressed multifaceted depictions of the emperor’s life. He underscored the need to educate youth on Vikramaditya’s role in sustaining India’s ancient wisdom and customs. Institutions like engineering and science colleges have been tasked with programs spotlighting his scientific prowess.
As Ujjain transforms into a living museum of heritage, Vikram Utsav stands as a testament to cultural continuity, inviting the world to partake in this historic revelry.
