JAIPUR: Jodhpur’s top cop has put an end to swirling rumors surrounding the untimely demise of celebrated kathavachika Sadhvi Prem Baisa, attributing it squarely to a massive heart attack stemming from lung failure.
Police Commissioner Om Prakash shared these findings on Saturday, drawing from a comprehensive medical board assessment. The report explicitly identifies cardio-pulmonary arrest, induced by grave pulmonary issues like asthma or COPD, as the fatal trigger.
Crucially, scientific tests found zero evidence of toxins, violence, or abuse in her body. This verdict came after exhaustive probes, including FSL analysis completed in record 11 days from samples dispatched on February 2.
The sequence of events began on January 28 at her Jodhpur ashram. Battling cough and shortness of breath, the revered saint received two injections from compounder Devi Singh. Tragically, her vitals plummeted soon after, leading to her collapse.
Rushed to a nearby hospital, she was declared deceased. The unfolding drama saw her body shuttled from ashram to government mortuary post-police involvement, with autopsy conducted promptly on January 29.
Final rites honored her memory in Barmer the next day. Yet, the probe revealed Devi Singh’s protocol violations, painting a picture of preventable oversight amid her treatment.
Commissioner Prakash noted the special team’s rigorous evidence collection, now augmented by expert reviews on the injected medications. With clarity established on the cause, focus shifts to accountability.
Once the board’s ultimate report lands, charges under criminal law and state medical regulations will proceed against the errant compounder. This outcome not only quells public anxiety but highlights vulnerabilities in informal healthcare practices at religious sites.
