A disturbing assault on a woman influencer at Delhi University has sparked widespread condemnation, with NHRC member Priyank Kanungo promising swift justice for the culprits. The incident, unfolding amid UGC regulation protests, has intensified calls for campus safety and accountability.
Kanungo’s strong reaction came via a post on X: reports of violent treatment toward a female media personality at DU are being noted, and legal action against the rowdies is underway. He stressed zero tolerance for women’s dishonor.
The clash occurred during demonstrations backing the 2026 UGC Equity Regulations, still before the Supreme Court. Alleged misconduct by protesters against the influencer led to public fury, followed by supportive students protesting at North Delhi’s Maurice Nagar station demanding fairness.
In response, DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh issued a heartfelt appeal for unity. Speaking on Saturday, he implored the university community to foster harmony and steer clear of divisive actions that could harm DU’s reputation.
‘Yesterday’s events at DU are worrisome. Our campus hosts students from every state and community—upholding social cohesion is essential,’ Singh noted. He shared that he had engaged with various student and teacher factions, plus law enforcement, to safeguard against recurrences.
Addressing UGC concerns, the VC urged faith in governmental processes and awaiting judicial outcomes. As investigations proceed, this incident highlights the need for robust measures to protect women and maintain decorum in India’s premier educational institutions.
