In a stirring address at the National Conference on SHE-BOX in New Delhi on Saturday, Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi declared workplace safety for women as more than a statutory duty—it’s the emblem of India’s dedication to equity and fairness.
The minister showcased the platform’s success: 14.8 lakh-plus institutions registered, 60,000 internal committees operational, and a dramatic rise in female labor participation from 23% to 42% in six years. This momentum reflects India’s pivot to responsible, women-driven growth.
Highlighting a groundbreaking ₹5 lakh crore budget, Devi positioned women’s honor, security, and financial independence at the heart of Viksit Bharat 2047. She envisioned a future where women thrive fearlessly in professional realms.
Minister of State Savitri Thakur called safety a core right, citing 2023-24 data: 41.7% women in labor force, 70% Mudra loans to women, 44% PM SVANidhi women beneficiaries, and 10 crore women empowered via 90 lakh SHGs. ‘Progress is evident, but our aim is universal safety and empowerment,’ she said.
Rajya Sabha member Sudhanshu Trivedi linked this to constitutional values, praising POSH and SHE-BOX for enhancing oversight and confidence in workplaces.
Secretary Anil Malik outlined nationwide integration: 1.5 lakh workplaces on board, active local committees per district. Noting 42% workforce participation with 80% in informal jobs, he urged ongoing vigilance for total inclusivity.
India’s strides in gender empowerment are accelerating, yet the mission persists: build a nation where women’s potential is fully unleashed without barriers.
