Kota, the mecca for medical aspirants, witnessed another devastating suicide on February 13 when an 18-year-old girl from Madhya Pradesh poisoned herself while preparing for NEET. The fatal event unfolded in a rented accommodation under Dadabadi police limits.
Residing in Kota for three months for intensive coaching, the teenager’s desperate act came to light around 10 PM. She consumed poison, triggering severe vomiting, and in her agony, confessed to those nearby that she had erred gravely and needed urgent assistance.
Quick action by her housemates and landlord saw her admitted to a nearby private facility, but doctors could not save her. Post-mortem procedures followed, after which her remains were released to family members who rushed from their hometown.
Speaking to reporters, SHO Baldev Ram noted her focus on cracking the medical entrance test. A cousin also in Kota for studies described the chaos: her health plummeted instantly post-ingestion, prompting residents to notify the owner, who mobilized family contact and ambulance services.
Shockingly, her brother shared that she wasn’t new to Kota’s coaching scene; she had left voluntarily three months prior but returned recently. ‘No signs of academic pressure; she was excelling and chatted normally with us hours before,’ he said, underscoring the mystery.
With the family clueless about triggers, investigations proceed, hinged on forensic findings from the autopsy. This case intensifies scrutiny on Kota’s high-stakes coaching ecosystem, where student suicides have surged, demanding systemic reforms for mental well-being.
