Srinagar’s law enforcement landscape received a jolt as the Anti-Corruption Bureau of Jammu and Kashmir apprehended Assistant Sub-Inspector Mukhtar Ahmad Khan of Bemina Police Station. The arrest came after he was trapped accepting Rs 8,000 as bribe in a probe-related extortion racket.
According to details emerging from the case, Khan had pressurized a complainant for money during the investigation of an FIR-registered matter. He reportedly warned of framing charges or causing undue trouble if demands weren’t met, crossing the line into blatant corruption.
The ACB wasted no time, initiating a discreet inquiry that corroborated the claims. Invoking Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, they set up a sting operation. The trap succeeded spectacularly, with Khan pocketing the bribe amount handed over by the decoy complainant, all witnessed and documented on the spot.
Post-arrest, the bureau reiterated its commitment to eradicating graft from government ranks. ‘We are cracking down hard on corrupt elements to ensure clean governance,’ an official stated. The development has bolstered public confidence, with the complainant lauding the efficient trap.
Further probes are underway to check for additional bribery episodes involving Khan. This high-profile catch underscores the ACB’s proactive stance, serving as a stern warning to others tempted by illicit gains and a beacon for transparent policing in Jammu and Kashmir.
