In a major leap towards modernizing education, the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) is rolling out an on-screen marking system for March board exams, as revealed by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. This makes Punjab one of the first state boards in the country to adopt a completely digital grading mechanism.
Bains explained how the process works: scanned physical answer sheets are loaded onto evaluators’ screens. Teachers mark them digitally, and the software instantly computes totals, slashing processing time and boosting precision. The system’s efficacy was validated in a trial run for the September 2025 supplementary tests, handling 23,000 booklets without a hitch.
Starting with a single subject in the matriculation exams, PSEB plans a gradual rollout across others. Enhanced security features include unique QR codes on every page of new-format answer booklets. These facilitate tamper-proof scanning in secure facilities, followed by upload to a centralized platform for remote evaluation with automated scoring and progress tracking.
“This reform redefines evaluation for our children’s future,” Bains asserted, underscoring its role in delivering fairness, speed, and accuracy. Chairman Amarpreet Singh reinforced that the digital setup guarantees uniformity and transparency, allowing teachers to maintain impeccable records effortlessly.
All systems are go, with comprehensive preparations completed. This initiative not only streamlines operations but also instills confidence in students and parents alike, heralding an era of trustworthy exam outcomes in Punjab.
