New Delhi’s infrastructure focus on Assam intensifies with approvals for 10 new road projects and 16 bridges, backed by more than Rs 747 crore. This infusion promises to revolutionize connectivity in one of India’s most strategically vital states.
Announcing the development, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari detailed the funding: Rs 617.98 crore from CRIF for roads and Rs 129.74 crore under CRIF Setu Bandhan for bridges. The schemes are designed to fortify the state’s transport backbone.
Gadkari shared on social platforms that enhanced roads and bridges will cut journey durations, improve regional access, and make transportation far more efficient. He stressed their role in driving development in the Northeast.
Key roads will upgrade pathways connecting districts, bustling markets, and growing industrial zones. Bridge replacements will prioritize safety in areas ravaged by floods and rivers, replacing weak old spans with resilient new constructions.
State authorities hailed the approvals as a game-changer for commerce, facilitating easier flow of goods and people while invigorating farming, local enterprises, and visitor influx. Isolated rural areas stand to benefit immensely with improved reach to vital amenities like schools and hospitals.
Echoing long-held views, CM Sarma views such infrastructure as Assam’s growth engine. Integrated under PM Gati Shakti, these efforts ensure coordinated, swift project execution.
With Assam positioned as the Northeast’s entry point and central to Act East ambitions, central funding for roads has ramped up steadily. Expect lower logistics expenses, smoother supply chains, and a tangible uplift in the state’s economic and social fabric.
