Amid escalating political rhetoric ahead of Assam’s Assembly elections, BJP parliamentarian Dharmavir Singh hit back at Congress accusations regarding the finalized voter rolls. In an IANS interview, he clarified that voting rights belong exclusively to Indian citizens, irrespective of background.
“Accusations are all Congress knows,” Singh quipped, lauding the Election Commission’s autonomy. He stressed that excluding non-citizens from voting is a constitutional imperative, not linked to any communal or regional bias. “Only those who belong to this nation can participate in its democracy.”
Turning to the uproar over General Naravane’s book, Singh called out Rahul Gandhi for alleged falsehoods. “As a key opposition figure, he must act responsibly. Parliamentary procedures, dictated by the Speaker, must be respected—no one silences him, but discipline is non-negotiable.”
Singh extolled PM Modi’s era of growth: soaring economy, bolstered global ties. “Critics who mocked our diplomacy now see America and Europe partnering with India. Lacking substantive critiques, opposition fabricates controversies while the nation advances.”
Regarding Bangladesh elections, he lamented, “Neither Bangladesh nor Pakistan appeals to me—their democracy is suffocated. These elections are performative, hiding grim realities from the international community.”
As Assam gears up for polls, Singh’s remarks signal BJP’s confidence in transparent processes and governance achievements.
