A chilling act of spousal violence has gripped Shivhar, Bihar, where a wife doused her husband with scalding oil as he slept, mere weeks into their marriage. The 25-year-old victim remains on the brink in hospital, his family accusing the woman of premeditated malice.
The ordeal unfolded in Minapur’s Balha ward-3 when mason Munna Shah dozed off post-lunch on Wednesday. His wife, Afsera Khatoon from Piprahi’s Basahiya village, reportedly boiled household oil and flung it across his torso, causing extensive burns.
Munna, who had just come back from construction jobs in Hyderabad, married Afsera on January 12. What began as a fresh union has turned nightmarish, with his upper body ravaged by third-degree burns.
Father Nazir Shah painted a picture of discord: ‘My bahu disliked my son from the start, avoiding him constantly. She warmed the oil and attacked him in cold blood.’ The family’s deliberate intent claim has fueled outrage.
Authorities responded promptly. SHO Uma Kant Singh of Piprahi thana lodged an FIR following the complaint, terming it a serious offense. Probe teams are piecing together evidence, including witness accounts and medical reports.
Experts point to underlying tensions possibly stemming from adjustment issues or deeper grievances in arranged marriages. As the young man clings to life, this incident spotlights the urgent need for counseling and awareness to prevent such tragedies. The village buzzes with whispers, hoping for accountability.
