Bengaluru’s traffic chaos escalated into a near-fatal confrontation when an enraged SUV driver dragged a man on his bonnet through crowded streets. Police have booked the perpetrator, Suresh, for attempted murder following the harrowing episode on HAL Airport Road.
Nanjunda, a 36-year-old florist and cab driver residing in Thyagarajanagar, was heading back from Hoskote market with his sister’s son Manoj K. driving. Trouble brewed post-Trinity Junction as they maneuvered a right turn at General K.S. Thimmaiah Circle, indicator flashing and hand signals clear.
A trailing white SUV honked relentlessly, prompting Nanjunda to request calm. Instead, the driver swerved left, spewed expletives without alighting, and sped ahead. Minutes later, at CB Road signal, Nanjunda dismounted to question the abuse and suggested parking aside.
What followed was pure terror. Suresh floored the accelerator, forcing Nanjunda to leap onto the bonnet and hold the wiper for dear life. The vehicle tore from the junction to ASC Centre College, about a kilometer away, as bystanders yelled in vain.
Finally, strategic blocking by cabs and other cars halted the SUV. Outraged commuters dragged Suresh out, berating his recklessness. Halasuru police swiftly filed charges under BNS provisions, with probes underway including potential video evidence.
This shocking road rage saga underscores Bengaluru’s mounting road safety crisis, where minor disputes spiral into violence. Experts call for de-escalation training and tech like dashcams to curb such dangers.
