Mumbai police have shattered a cunning interstate gang masquerading as legitimate postal services by churning out phony stamps sold nationwide. The bust, executed by MRA Marg station, led to five arrests and the confiscation of counterfeit goods worth lakhs, exposing a scam siphoning government revenue.
It all started with a tip from GPO inspector Ashutosh Jamadarsingh Kumar, who reported dubious stamps circulating in bulk on September 12, 2025. Police’s digital sleuthing revealed the gang’s industrial-scale printing and courier-based distribution model targeting multiple states.
Bank records painted a damning picture: transactions worth crores flowed through the suspects’ accounts, underscoring the operation’s profitability. Operatives in Delhi and UP were pinpointed as ringleaders, employing evasion tactics like frequent number changes and relocations.
Undeterred, the Mumbai squad embedded in Delhi, collaborating with local sources over two weeks to orchestrate the takedown. The haul included Rs 27.84 lakh in bogus stamps, a fraction of the damage inflicted on postal revenues.
Arrested culprits hail from diverse regions: Mumbai’s Rakesh Bind, Bihar duo Shamsuddin Gaffar and Shahid Raza, Delhi’s Mohammad Shahabuddin Sheikh, and Ghaziabad’s Virendra Prasad. Questioning is peeling back layers on manufacturing techniques and distribution channels. With the mastermind still fugituve, intensified searches across states signal more arrests on the horizon.
