A night of joy turned into unimaginable tragedy for three cricket enthusiasts in Darbhanga, Bihar. While riding back from a local match on one bike, Pankaj Kumar, Ankit Sahni, and Vivek Sahni were mowed down by a mystery vehicle on SH-17 near Sonpur village under Biroul police station limits.
The accident happened in the blink of an eye. Sources say the unidentified vehicle, traveling at high speed from Biroul towards Saharsa, rammed into the overloaded motorcycle. The boys flew several meters, landing in critical condition. Alarmed locals sprang into action, ferrying the injured to PHC, but medical efforts were in vain—they were declared brought dead.
All three hailed from Akhrah village, bonded by friendship and a shared passion for the game. News of their demise spread like wildfire, leaving families shattered. ‘My nephew was full of life; this is devastating,’ lamented Moti Sahni, uncle of Pankaj. The village, once buzzing with youthful energy, now echoes with cries of despair.
Biroul police have launched a thorough probe. The bodies underwent autopsy at DMCH, and legal proceedings are underway. SDPO Prabhakar Tiwari revealed that teams are combing through nearby CCTV recordings to trace the hit-and-run driver. ‘Justice will be swift,’ he promised.
This incident highlights Bihar’s perilous roads, where overloaded bikes and rash driving form a deadly cocktail. As the community rallies to support the bereaved, calls grow louder for better road safety measures and awareness campaigns targeting youth.
