Chhattisgarh’s Korba district was gripped by horror as a daughter turned daughter-in-law’s worst fear into reality, slitting her father’s throat during a midnight quarrel. The 27-year-old Geeta Kevat stands accused in the killing of 55-year-old Ashok Kumar Kevat in Raliya village’s Limamunda Basti.
For years, Ashok’s family had fractured under his doubts about his wife’s fidelity and his eldest daughter’s conduct. His spouse and three girls relocated to Adil Chowk in Korba eight years ago, seeking peace from the toxic environment. The daughters balanced jobs in private sectors and education amid the strain.
Their brief return to the village on February 9 for compensation paperwork turned fatal. At 2 AM, words flew harshly between father and daughter. Ashok’s alleged slurs proved the tipping point. Geeta seized a nearby sickle, striking with lethal precision at his neck.
Without remorse, she announced to kin, ‘I’ve done it—he’s dead.’ The uncle’s arrival confirmed the nightmare: Ashok lay motionless, blood-soaked. Police nabbed Geeta on the spot, with the body dispatched for autopsy.
Preliminary findings paint Ashok as an alcoholic, fueling chronic disputes. Cops are probing if Geeta’s active social media presence, including a contentious video that drew cyber complaints, factored in. As investigations continue, this case highlights how deep-seated resentments can erupt into unthinkable violence, shattering familial bonds forever.
