Heartbreak struck a Bihar village late Tuesday as a high-speed Scorpio smashed into a roadside tree, killing three relatives on their way to a wedding. The collision happened around midnight on the Dhaka-Ghodsahan highway in East Champaran’s Ghodsahan area, near Mahadeva village.
According to authorities, Vinod Prasad, his cousin Anil Prasad, and village deputy Gajendra Das were traveling in the SUV to join the baraat for Vinod’s son’s marriage at a local hall. The driver lost control dodging a fast-approaching vehicle from the opposite direction, leading to the fatal crash.
The mangled wreckage spoke volumes of the crash’s intensity. Three occupants died instantly, while one survivor was rushed to hospital. Chaos ensued as grieving families arrived, their wedding celebrations shattered by profound loss.
Police secured the site, took custody of the bodies for autopsy, and are now hunting the absconding driver. Initial probes point to excessive speed as a key factor. This incident highlights Bihar’s road safety crisis, where poor lighting, narrow roads, and rash driving claim countless lives annually.
Communities are rallying around the bereaved family, but questions linger about accountability. Stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better infrastructure could avert future tragedies, urging immediate action from state transport officials.
