In a testament to international cooperation, India’s CBI has extradited Haryana-based fugitive Sombeer Motta from the United States on February 10. Supported by MEA and MHA, this high-stakes operation highlights the effectiveness of global law enforcement networks.
Motta, wanted for murder and firearms violations in Haryana, was swiftly deported after months of pursuit. Haryana Police is now interrogating him as investigations deepen.
The chain of events started with Haryana Police approaching CBI, which issued an Interpol Red Notice via its channels on February 11, 2025. Coordination with NCB Washington ensured his arrest and swift handover.
Interpol’s Red Notices serve as global alerts, mobilizing police worldwide to apprehend fugitives. CBI, as the national central bureau for Interpol in India, has been pivotal, bringing back over 150 such criminals in recent years through IndiaPol.
Just last month in January, Haryana STF achieved a parallel success by repatriating notorious gangster Aman Bhainswal from the US. His network spanned key districts like Sonipat, Rohtak, and Jhajjar, extending to Delhi, with ten cases against him.
Bhainswal’s escape involved fake papers; he fled to Kuwait on June 20, 2024, before entering America illegally. Gohana police filed charges under IJC and Passport Act, issued an LOC, secured an RCN, and declared him a proclaimed offender.
These operations reflect a strategic crackdown on organized crime syndicates exploiting international borders. As India strengthens its Interpol ties, more fugitives can expect their days of evasion to end abruptly.
