In a boost to India’s world-class infrastructure ambitions, the central government disclosed that the NPG has evaluated 352 projects amounting to Rs 16.10 lakh crore. Union Minister Jitin Prasada shared these figures in a written reply to the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, highlighting the momentum of PM Gati Shakti.
Out of the assessed projects, 201 secured approvals, and an impressive 167 are now in the implementation phase. The NPG, a key arm of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, meticulously vets major initiatives to guarantee integrated planning, inter-ministerial synergy, end-to-end connectivity, and evidence-based policymaking. This preemptive strategy also promotes comprehensive area development near project locations.
Financial support underscores the initiative’s scale. States received Rs 5,000 crore in interest-free loans spanning 50 years from the Finance Ministry’s Expenditure Department. Oversight is multi-layered: Ongoing central projects above Rs 150 crore fall under the watchful eye of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
For high-stake projects exceeding Rs 500 crore, the PMG employs a tiered problem-solving framework. Everyday issues are handled at the ministry level, while intricate ones climb to apex forums like PRAGATI. This efficient model cuts through bureaucratic layers, curbing overlaps and empowering leaders to tackle critical roadblocks.
By fusing PM Gati Shakti with PMG protocols, the government has expedited issue resolution, dismantled barriers, and fast-tracked completions. This synergy not only enhances project timelines but also positions India as an infrastructure powerhouse, driving economic vitality and sectoral transformation.
