In a key development for Indo-Pacific diplomacy, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pavitra Margherita convened with Fiji’s Finance, Commerce, and Trade Development Minister Aserom Emanuel in New Delhi on Tuesday. The agenda centered on enhancing bilateral bonds, common objectives, and prospects for joint ventures in digital infrastructure development.
Taking to X, Margherita noted her delight in the morning meeting, where discussions spanned all facets of India-Fiji relations. Emphasis was placed on development collaboration, skill enhancement programs, and digital infrastructure partnerships, reviewing current efforts and charting future paths.
Shifting to Fiji, High Commissioner Sunil Mehta engaged with Speaker Filimoni Jitoko on February 2, solidifying parliamentary relations and bilateral synergies. The High Commission’s X update praised the constructive dialogue aimed at propelling cooperation forward.
On January 27, Mehta led the second Project Steering Committee session for India’s aided QIP, the Tubalevu Ground Water Supply Project. Attendees included officials from Fiji’s key ministries. With groundwork already underway, this initiative will ensure sustainable water access for locals, exemplifying practical India-Fiji partnership.
This follows Mehta’s January 19 rendezvous with Emanuel, focusing on expanding cooperation in shared domains. Built on foundations of respect and cultural affinity, India-Fiji ties flourished post-PM Modi’s 2014 Fiji visit and the first FIPIC summit, heralding sustained regional collaboration.
