Corruption got a rude jolt in Bihar’s Gaya district when the state Vigilance Bureau trapped and arrested Nagar block’s Block Development Officer Rakesh Kumar mid-bribe on Monday. The Rs 50,000 trap unfolded dramatically in the block chief’s office, exposing how officials exploit completed projects for illicit gains.
It all began with a formal complaint at the Patna Vigilance office by Suchita Ranjan from Gannu Bigaha village. Her husband Chandbhushan had finished labor work valued at Rs 3.50 lakh, but Kumar allegedly held up payments unless greased with a cut.
Preliminary checks confirmed the racket. Under DSP Satyendra Ram’s command, a specialized team laid the trap. As Kumar pocketed the marked notes, the officers pounced, securing irrefutable proof.
The officer faces grilling before court appearance in Patna’s anti-corruption court, with charges filed at Vigilance thana. This is the bureau’s 16th action this year, boasting 11 catches and Rs 7.15 lakh seized—proof of Bihar’s hardening stance on bribery that erodes rural progress.
