Palamu district witnessed a devastating road accident that transformed wedding celebrations into a somber funeral in Rehiya village on Monday. The victim, 20-year-old Akbar Ansari, son of Aliim Ansari, died instantly in a fierce bike crash just hours before his sister’s marriage.
Akbar had set out on his motorcycle from Rehiya via Manatu towards Padma to buy essential items for the wedding. The atmosphere at home was filled with anticipation and lively preparations. Disaster unfolded near Kusdi village’s Kartik Oraon High School, where his path crossed with an oncoming two-wheeler.
Riding the other bike were Punil Kumar and his two cousins, Soni Kumari and Puja Kumari from Aduariya village. The students were heading back after completing their Class 10 board exams. The collision mangled both vehicles beyond recognition.
While Akbar perished on the spot, the trio suffered grievous injuries. Bystanders quickly transported them to the local health center in Manatu. Medical staff stabilized them briefly before airlifting referrals to Medininagar’s MMCH for specialized care.
Police swiftly responded, securing the site under SHO Vicky Kumar’s supervision. Post-mortem procedures are in process, vehicles impounded, and speed found to be the key factor per witnesses. Rehiya village, once alive with wedding songs, now echoes with cries of lamentation as the family grapples with unimaginable pain.
