West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh turned up the heat on Mamata Banerjee during a Malda outreach, branding her Delhi sojourn as theatrical antics driven by dread of losing power. Over informal tea sessions with residents, Ghosh delved into election preparations before unloading on Banerjee’s motives behind visiting the Election Commission.
Addressing IANS, Ghosh highlighted the suspicious timing: SIR voter list revisions are in full swing across Bengal, yet Banerjee heads to Delhi. ‘She’s terrified that a proper SIR will unravel her game’s flaws, preventing a second term,’ he charged. The one-and-a-half-hour huddle with CEC Rajiv Kumar was followed by Banerjee’s prompt allegations against the process.
Ghosh countered that SIR poses no hurdles; rather, TMC cadres are targeting BJP BLOs, intentionally sabotaging timelines to thwart timely completion. He invoked Bihar’s precedent, where EC’s SIR paved the way for NDA’s sweeping victory. ‘Bengal will mirror Bihar’s success story,’ Ghosh forecasted, rallying his base.
On the flip side, Pappu Yadav from Purnia voiced solidarity with Banerjee post her Delhi rendezvous, likening her to the indomitable Rani of Jhansi. As accusations fly from BJP and defenses rise from allies, the SIR controversy intensifies, signaling a fiercely contested electoral battle ahead in West Bengal.
