The untimely death of Maharashtra’s towering political figure Ajit Pawar in a Baramati plane crash has left an indelible void, none more so than for his son Jay Pawar. In a viral emotional outpouring, Jay shared cherished family photos accompanied by words that capture unimaginable sorrow.
‘You’re missed so much, Papa. If only time had frozen. I’d hold you close and never let go. Papa, the memories haunt me,’ Jay posted on Instagram and WhatsApp. This heartfelt lament from the usually reserved young Pawar has resonated widely, humanizing a prominent political dynasty.
Employed in the family’s vast cooperative sector enterprises, Jay has shunned the spotlight. Yet, he rallied for NCP during key elections – from parliamentary to recent municipal bodies – earning quiet admiration from Baramati locals who value his grounded approach over media hype.
Recounting the tragedy: Ajit was en route to Baramati on January 28 for local polls campaigning when his aircraft met disaster on landing. Besides Ajit, four others perished. Baramati bid a tearful farewell on January 29 at Vidya Pratisthan Ground, where massive crowds swelled in grief.
Sunetra Pawar, Ajit’s widow, was swiftly appointed Deputy CM, inheriting critical departments like Excise, Sports, and Minority Affairs. She visited Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial in Karad Monday before heading home. Tuesday sees the family at ‘Sahyog’ in Katewadi, open for mourners until evening.
As NCP navigates leadership transitions, Jay’s public vulnerability highlights the personal tragedies intertwined with power politics. Maharashtra watches how the Pawars forge ahead.
