Rawalpindi’s Anti-Terrorism Court took a firm stand Monday, issuing a non-bailable warrant against Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed PTI founder Imran Khan. Her consistent no-shows at hearings linked to the November 2024 Garrison Town protests prompted the decisive judicial action.
During proceedings, defense counsel Faisal Malik stipulated that Aleema would only appear post-thaw of her frozen bank accounts and ID. Prosecutor Zahir Shah rebuffed this, insisting suspects cannot impose conditions or hinder trials. Labeling her attitude irresponsible, he pushed for daily court sessions.
The bench rejected her exemption request, summoned her surety, and rescheduled for February 3. Police in Rawalpindi received orders to detain and present her by Tuesday, with asset freezes intact until she complies.
The case originates from PTI’s defiant November 26 march to Islamabad’s D-Chowk, breaching bans to demand Imran Khan’s freedom. Supporters battled security forces, met with tear gas, culminating in a sudden end to the three-day agitation.
In related news, PTI filed a petition in Sindh High Court over 180 detentions from MPO ordinance raids in Karachi and beyond. Sunday’s operations targeted party homes at dawn, per PTI claims, which Sindh officials refute. This warrant signals deepening legal pressures on Khan’s family amid Pakistan’s volatile political landscape.
