The volleyball world in India got a major boost today with the announcement of the Delhi Pro Volleyball League (DPVL). Launched jointly by the Delhi Volleyball Association and Delhi Olympic Association, this pro league is poised to transform the sport’s landscape in the national capital.
Ex-national players Niti Rawat and Jasoda Guliya made the exciting reveal, detailing a league structure with six franchises. It will feature athletes from Delhi and beyond, selected through transparent open trials scheduled for the upcoming months.
At the launch, Kuldip Vats, a key figure in Indian volleyball as President of the Delhi Olympic Association and Joint Secretary of the Volleyball Federation of India, voiced strong backing. He praised Delhi’s rich history of producing elite players and called DPVL a timely initiative for professional growth at both state and national tiers.
Sudhir Vats from the Delhi Volleyball Association stressed the league’s role in talent scouting and development. ‘DPVL will create a transparent pathway, positioning itself as a model for professional state leagues nationwide,’ he affirmed.
Looking ahead, co-founder Jasoda Guliya shared grand ambitions. The league seeks to establish robust governance, fostering a stable environment for sustained success. Beyond games, it aims to cultivate an ecosystem where players can excel, monetize their skills, and reach international stages.
Co-founder Niti Rawat addressed the lack of platforms for Delhi’s hidden gems. ‘Our goal is straightforward: deliver exposure, visibility, and elite competition to deserving athletes,’ she stated.
Adding to the festivities, junior teams from Delhi—boys recently national runners-up and the girls’ squad—received accolades. This moment highlighted how initiatives like DPVL are vital for nurturing the next generation.
With trials on the horizon, DPVL signals a professional era for volleyball, promising thrilling action and career opportunities for players across the country.
