In a powerful boost to national security and patriotism, the CISF has rolled out the Vande Mataram Coastal Cyclothon 2026, a grueling 6,500-km bicycle odyssey along India’s shores. Launched on January 28 from New Delhi’s iconic stadium, the event was graced by Union Minister Nityanand Rai, who gave it the green light.
Cricket star Suresh Raina amplified the excitement with a video from Delhi airport. Wishing teams luck for the January 28 to February 22 journey, he described it as an emblem of discipline, commitment, and unyielding determination. ‘Participate and show your spirit,’ Raina appealed, linking sportsmanship to safeguarding the nation.
CISF shared Raina’s endorsement on social media, noting his appreciation for their role in maritime awareness campaigns. The cyclothon marks ‘Vande Mataram’s’ 150th anniversary, with teams starting from Gujarat’s Lakhpat and West Bengal’s Bakkhali, set to converge in Kochi after navigating diverse coastal terrains.
Key objectives include alerting communities to smuggling dangers, building security alliances, paying tribute to heroes, and promoting fitness. It underscores the vital role of coastal dwellers, especially fishermen, in national defense.
As cyclists pedal through nine states and two UTs, they carry messages of unity and resilience. Raina’s involvement underscores how sports icons can inspire public engagement in critical national endeavors, potentially setting a precedent for future collaborations.
