Purnia witnessed a horrifying escalation of a personal feud into a public execution on Wednesday. Suraj Yadav lost his life to a hail of bullets during a daylight shootout triggered by a spat involving a social media video and a jealous boyfriend.
The genesis of the violence traces back to a content creator from Nevalal Chowk, who shot a clip with girls at a school Saraswati Puja event. The boyfriend of one participant discovered it, kidnapped the creator, and beat him up. For the past three days, bad blood festered between the factions.
To broker peace, a panchayat assembled near Fun City Park in Maranga, drawing 15-20 supporters from each side. But instead of reconciliation, the gathering exploded into gunfire—around 10 to 15 shots fired indiscriminately. Yadav, present to help settle the matter, was targeted and killed before his bodyguard could react.
Law enforcement arrived swiftly, securing the area and probing the crime. The perpetrators, known repeat offenders, are now the focus of intense police operations across potential locations.
The incident has ignited political fury. Ex-MP Santosh Kushwaha accused the Bihar government of failing its people, noting a surge in brazen crimes. ‘Police deterrence is gone; hooligans rule the streets,’ he remarked. Detailed accounts from on-site witnesses paint a picture of unchecked aggression in broad daylight.
