In a major win for public safety, Delhi’s Southwest District Police unveiled the mystery behind a chilling robbery in Sagarpur. The Anti-Snatching Cell teamed up with local officers to collar two seasoned thugs, sending a strong message against urban crime.
Sumit Nagpal from Dashrathpuri and Gaurav alias Totla from Vijay Enclave, Dabri – aged 34 and 31 respectively – are now in custody. The robbery targeted M. Kumar on January 18 night at approximately 10:15 PM. Riding home on his motorcycle near Dashrathpuri drain, Kumar was ambushed by the pair who cut him off abruptly.
They manhandled him, rifling through his pockets for Rs 680 in cash. Under duress, Kumar was coerced into making a Rs 3,200 PhonePe transfer to the robbers’ account, after which they vanished.
An FIR kicked off immediate action at Sagarpur station. A crack team, supervised by ACP Anil Kumar and headed by Inspector Hari Singh, comprised dedicated personnel like PSI Mukesh and constables Sumer, Arun, Nitin, and Anil.
The breakthrough came from exhaustive CCTV analysis covering 50+ cameras over 3 km, bolstered by tech probes, tip-offs, and ground surveillance. The suspects were tracked down and arrested swiftly.
Interviews yielded full confessions: the men admitted to preying on victims for drug money. Recovered loot confirms their guilt.
Delhi Police’s tech-savvy approach is proving effective against snatch-and-grab gangs. This case highlights vulnerabilities in nighttime travel and the force’s proactive stance. Further inquiries aim to dismantle any larger networks linked to these criminals.
