Madhya Pradesh’s serene town of Tarana, nestled in Ujjain district, witnessed a shocking outbreak of communal violence that prompted swift police action and a curfew declaration. By Friday, authorities had detained 20 suspects linked to the clashes that ignited from a street brawl Thursday evening.
The trigger was a brutal attack on a VHP propagator and his companion, identified as Sohail Thakur. Assailants struck from behind, inflicting severe injuries that necessitated transfer to Ujjain’s medical facilities. FIRs name specific individuals including Sappan Mirza and others, with arrests following quickly.
Retaliation came hard Friday morning when activists damaged buses at the stand and chanted provocative slogans, injuring several. Post-namaz chaos saw fires lit in vehicles, shops ransacked, and stone-throwing incidents, escalating the disorder.
Responding decisively, SP Pradeep Sharma bolstered police presence with continuous patrols and flag marches. A prohibitory order under BNS Section 163 was enacted to prevent further incidents. Rumors are being countered through public announcements, and video evidence is aiding identifications.
‘Both communities’ representatives are engaged in dialogue. Six face murder attempt charges, and security is airtight to avert mishaps,’ Sharma assured. The injured victim’s condition is stable, but the town braces under tight security.
With businesses closed and roads cleared for essential movement, Tarana’s residents are heeding calls for calm. This episode underscores the fragility of communal harmony in the region, prompting authorities to probe deeper for instigators.
