Ahmedabad’s posh NRI Tower became the scene of a horrifying domestic murder-suicide on Wednesday evening, claiming the lives of a newlywed couple. Yashraj Singh Gohil, related to senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Shaktisinh Gohil, fatally shot his wife Rajeshwari before taking his own life.
The Class-1 officer at Gujarat Maritime Board had tied the knot with Rajeshwari only two months prior, settling into their high-rise apartment in Bodakdev-Thaltej. Police reports indicate a sudden dispute around 10:30 PM prompted Yashraj to grab his licensed revolver. He shot his wife, summoned an ambulance, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Shortly after, he shot himself in a separate room.
Gunshots panicked neighbors, who promptly notified authorities. Police, crime branch teams, and top officers including the DCP rushed to the site, cordoning off the area. Forensic teams meticulously examined the scene for clues.
The incident has left the political family in mourning. Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi highlighted Yashraj’s bright future, noting his recent job and UPSC aspirations. No previous domestic issues were reported by the couple.
A thorough probe is in progress, encompassing witness statements, ballistic evidence, firearm license checks, and emergency call logs. Officials vow to reveal the full story as investigations deepen, shedding light on what drove this young couple to such a fatal end.
