In a landmark move towards universal healthcare, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is set to launch the Chief Minister Health Insurance Yojana today in Mohali. The event will see the presence of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, underscoring the party’s commitment to welfare promises. This scheme is poised to be Punjab’s largest health initiative yet, targeting comprehensive coverage for all residents.
Families across the state will gain access to up to Rs 10 lakh in free medical treatment annually. Health cards, distributed free via simple documentation like Aadhaar and voter ID, will facilitate cashless care at government facilities and more than 800 private hospitals now empanelled under the program. With 65 lakh families covered, it’s a game-changer for affordable healthcare.
Government hospitals remain fully free, while the new cards extend benefits to private setups, eliminating financial barriers to quality care. Outreach efforts include volunteers from youth clubs handing out tokens for easy card enrollment at local centers—no fees involved. The process is designed for maximum accessibility.
Dr. Balbir Singh, the Health Minister, detailed the scheme in a press briefing, stressing zero tolerance for any charges from individuals, agencies, or hospitals. The state will foot every bill, true to the vision of Mann and Kejriwal for burden-free health services. Any attempts to mislead or exploit citizens will face stringent legal repercussions.
As Punjab steps into this health era, the scheme promises not just treatment but a healthier future, potentially setting a benchmark for other states in delivering equitable medical aid.
