Telangana’s leadership converged at the hallowed grounds of Medaram on Monday as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with his family and cabinet ministers, offered prayers at the Sammakka-Saralamma temple. This poignant event in Mulugu district marks a deepening bond between the state government and its tribal communities.
Following the historic cabinet meeting at the site on Sunday, Reddy immersed himself in age-old tribal customs. He inaugurated key infrastructure upgrades for the upcoming Medaram Jatara, a spectacle running from January 28 to 31 that attracts lakhs of pilgrims every two years. Highlights included the unveiling of a deity pillar and the sacred Gaddelu platform.
Joined by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the CM’s initiatives reflect robust state support: Rs 260 crore budgeted, split between logistics and enduring temple enhancements. Sacred zones for principal deities have been meticulously planned for devotee convenience.
During Sunday’s cultural extravaganza, Reddy envisioned elevating the Jatara to Kumbh Mela proportions. He emphasized completing site developments well in advance, boasting comprehensive amenities for the tribal tirtha.
The festival embodies valor turned divine, unique for its temple-less worship tradition. Reddy invoked the legacy of Sammakka and Saralamma’s defiance against Kakatiya tyranny. Personally, he reminisced about his 2023 padayatra kickoff from Medaram, which propelled his Congress to victory. ‘It’s my privilege to uplift this historic site,’ he affirmed, noting early completion of stone structures and pathways.
