Chhattisgarh police have apprehended a repeat offender, Suraj Dhruv, for the cold-blooded murder of a middle-aged woman, Sunita Rajak. Dhruv, who had previously served six years in prison for killing his wife, struck again after being released. He offered a lift to the victim, who was heading home after attending the Madai fair. Instead of taking her to her destination, he held her captive for several weeks. Investigations revealed that the motive behind the crime was robbery and concealment. After killing the victim with her saree, the accused stole her jewelry and attempted to dispose of the body by burning it in a remote forest area. Forensic science played a key role, as the decomposed body required DNA profiling for identification. The arrest has brought closure to a case that haunted the local police for months.
