The who’s who of Andhra Pradesh’s political and film circles converged in Hyderabad today to mark the 30th death anniversary of N.T. Rama Rao, the matinee idol turned mass leader. Nandamuri Balakrishna, NTR’s son and a prominent actor-politician, spearheaded the commemorations with a moving speech.
At NTR Gadi in Hyderabad, Balakrishna bowed before his father’s portrait, tears in his eyes. He reminisced about NTR’s journey from silver screen superstardom to storming the political arena, toppling the Congress government in 1983 with his TDP wave.
Joining his father was Nandamuri, Balakrishna’s son, who recounted how NTR’s discipline and dedication shaped family values. ‘He taught us that true power lies in serving the people,’ the young heir stated, evoking applause from the assembled crowd.
From afar, Nara Lokesh, NTR’s grandson and TDP general secretary, penned a touching tribute online. Accompanied by vintage images, Lokesh’s message emphasized NTR’s fight against corruption and his welfare schemes that benefited millions of farmers and women.
The program featured mythological reenactments from NTR’s blockbuster hits, live bhajans, and a massive blood donation camp in NTR’s name. Political speeches underscored his role in installing Telugu pride on the national map.
NTR’s death on January 18, 1996, left a void, but his family’s continued involvement in public life keeps his flame alive. Events like these not only mourn his loss but celebrate a life that redefined Telugu identity.
