Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the green signal to India’s first-ever Vande Bharat Sleeper train, a game-changer for long-distance night travel. Launched virtually from Lucknow, the train will operate on the Delhi-Dehradun route, bringing high-speed luxury to everyday commuters.
This 20-coach behemoth, entirely made in India, features state-of-the-art sleeping arrangements in AC-3 Tier configuration. Reducing the Delhi-Dehradun travel time from over 10 hours to a swift five, it operates at speeds up to 160 kmph. Key stops include Moradabad, Najibabad, and Saharanpur, enhancing connectivity for Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh residents.
Inside, passengers will find modular interiors, automatic doors, and premium amenities like charging ports at every berth, hot water availability, and CCTV surveillance for safety. The train’s lightweight materials ensure fuel efficiency, while its design minimizes vibrations for a restful sleep.
Speaking at the event, PM Modi praised the engineering feat: ‘Vande Bharat trains are symbols of New India’s speed and self-confidence.’ He noted how such innovations will propel economic growth by linking people and opportunities faster.
The project, part of a larger plan to introduce 100 Vande Bharat trains, reflects rapid progress in Make in India. Officials revealed that four more sleeper trains are in advanced stages of production. With dynamic pricing and online reservations, it’s poised to become a preferred choice for business travelers and families alike.
