Sergio Gor stepped into his role as the United States’ Ambassador to India amid a ceremonial welcome at the New Delhi embassy on Monday. The event underscored the enthusiasm surrounding his arrival, with Gor promptly sharing insights from his inaugural day and thanking the embassy staff for their hospitality.
Taking to the social media platform X, the new envoy posted, ‘Namaste! It’s my first day at the US Embassy in New Delhi. Honored to be part of this committed team, I’m excited to promote President Donald Trump’s agenda and strengthen US-India ties. With President Trump at the helm, the days ahead for both countries look promising.’
In his speech to attendees, Gor provided a key update on economic relations, announcing that trade talks between the two nations would recommence on January 13. Responding to queries about the trade deal, he said, ‘Negotiations are progressing actively from both sides. The next session is set for Tuesday. Dealing with India, the globe’s biggest democracy, isn’t straightforward, but our resolve is firm. While trade matters greatly, we also collaborate deeply in security, anti-terror efforts, energy, tech, education, and healthcare.’
Positioning India as America’s foremost ally, Gor outlined his vision. ‘India stands out as our most essential partner. Over the next months and years, I’ll work to fulfill an ambitious agenda as true strategic allies, leveraging mutual strengths, respect, and leadership.’
He also touched on the personal rapport between leaders, observing, ‘I’ve accompanied President Trump worldwide and can confirm the sincerity of his friendship with Prime Minister Modi. Our nations are bound by more than mutual benefits—by elevated personal ties. Real friendships weather disagreements and find common ground.’
Gor’s debut signals robust intentions to elevate the strategic partnership, addressing trade hurdles while expanding cooperation in critical domains, setting the stage for enduring collaboration.
