The targeted armored vehicle was traveling from Gomal Police Station towards Tank when the device, hidden along the route, exploded with devastating impact.
According to reports, the blast ripped through the APC, mangling its structure and instantly killing all occupants. Rescue teams rushed the remains to Tank’s main hospital, where the tragedy’s scale became starkly evident. This incident marks a grim escalation in the wave of attacks plaguing the region.
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi condemned the assault in unequivocal terms, voicing fury at the loss of brave lives. He has summoned detailed reports from police brass and assured support to the victims’ families. Kundi called upon the provincial government to adopt pragmatic steps for lasting peace, emphasizing that hollow promises won’t suffice.
While no outfit has owned up to the carnage, the modus operandi mirrors tactics employed by extremists operating in KP’s volatile terrains. The attack follows closely on the heels of a shooting spree in Lucky Marwat, where three traffic cops fell to gunfire from unidentified bikers, and another in Bannu claiming one more life.
In a proactive response, KP police and CTD conducted intelligence-based raids over the weekend, eliminating eight suspected terrorists in Bannu, Khyber, and suburban Peshawar areas. Officials claimed these militants were plotting further strikes against security installations.
This spate of violence exposes deep vulnerabilities in Pakistan’s northwest, where insurgents exploit rugged landscapes for ambushes and bombings.
