Jharkhand’s Garhwa district witnessed a devastating road tragedy on Tuesday night when a Scorpio SUV carrying four passengers collided with a truck, resulting in all four deaths.
The accident unfolded around 10 PM on the Garhwa main road. According to police reports, the Scorpio was en route from Ranchi when the driver attempted a risky overtake, leading to a catastrophic frontal crash. Rescue teams had to use cutting equipment to extricate the trapped victims.
The deceased have been identified as local residents returning from a family event. Among them was a young woman and her relatives. The truck involved was loaded with construction materials, amplifying the collision’s force.
Garhwa SP confirmed that blood samples have been collected to check for alcohol influence. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events.
This incident adds to the alarming road safety statistics in Jharkhand, with over 2,000 fatalities recorded last year alone. Activists are calling for immediate installation of speed breakers, better signage, and regular vehicle checks on this stretch.
The victims’ families are devastated, demanding swift justice and road improvements. Funeral arrangements are underway as the district observes a day of mourning.
